Which Sawn Timber?

Whether you are designing or constructing you need to know just which grade of sawn timber to use in your project. There are so many different sizes and grades of sawn timber available that it pays to get the right advice.

At TTT Products we're experts in manufacturing poles, not sawn timber. Therefore we source all our sawn timber from reliable, high quality, sustainably managed sawmills. Once the sawn timber arrives at TTT Products we double-check the quality. The sawn timber may then be machined or further processed, or simply steamed and/or treated as required.

Steaming is not always necessary if the sawn timber is supplied in an airdried or kilndried state. Treatment with CCA is carried out to ensure the sawn timber is durable and resistant to fungal and insect attack. After treatment the CCA preservative is 'fixed' into the wood using a Fixation process to prevent leaching of any surface CCA.

The sawn timber we mostly handle at TTT Products is that which is generally used for retaining walls, or specialist timbers you can't get anywhere else. Usually these sawn timbers are treated to H4 or H5 Hazard Classes. While both H4 and H5 provide protection against insect and fungal attack in outside, in-ground situations, H5 is recommended when the end use is a critical structure.

TTT Products can also provide H6 Marine treated sawn timbers, but this timber is an even higher grade and therefore requires special ordering and handling. Please refer to our Marine Poles & Timber page for more information

No.2 Grade Retaining Timber is generally called No.2 Grade and is sawn timber milled from the any part of a log.
We stock No.2 Grade Retaining Timber that is roughsawn, or roughsawn with an arrissed edge.

MSG8 Timber is sawn timber that has been Mechanically Stress Graded for strength and is stronger than No.2 Grade.
We stock MSG8 Timber that is roughsawn, roughsawn with an arrissed edge, or machine-gauged.

Hard to Find Timber might be large dimension sawn timber or milled from specific species, and is only provided to order.
